At the weekend I was making brownies! Wow…you would have never guessed by the title. Anyway, the brownies were UH-mazing! I am not joking – they were utterly delicious. Considering, the fact that this was my first time making them (on my own) I did pretty well, so this recipe must be a good one! I LOVE brownies and I mean unless you’re allergic to them, who doesn’t?!?!!?! So without further rambling, let’s get baking (or reading :))
- 150 g (10 tablespoons) unsalted butter
- 300 g (1 1/4 cups) caster sugar (any sugar really)
- 110 g (3/4 cups) cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- 2 eggs
- 120 g (1/2 cup) plain flour
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 160 degrees (325 Fahrenheit). Place your butter, sugar, salt and cocoa powder into a heat-proof bowl. Place the bowl over a saucepan of hot water. Then gradually stir until everything has melted. The mixture should be quite gritty but smooth. Set aside, for it to cool.
Step 2: Line a tin (not too big, around 15 x 15 cm) with foil or baking paper. Beat it the vanilla extract and the eggs (one at a time) using a whisk.
Step 3: Now beat in the flour until the mixture is smooth and a bit ‘glossy’.Pour the mixture into the tin and bake for around 25 minutes. The time depends on whether you put the tin on the bottom half (takes longer) or the top half (takes less time) of the oven.
Now it’s the fun part (eating)! You can sprinkle a bit of icing sugar on top (once they have cooled) and then you can finally EAT!
